If you are trying to simplify your life, or if you want to work on reducing the chemicals that are used in your home, you might want to make your own cleaning products.
Creating your own cleaning products are quite simply really. All you need is lemon juice to scent, baking soda, and some vinegar. Although I do use my homemade cleaning products, I have found that I still need to use a commercial product in order to deal with mineral stains and deposits. Depending upon where you live, you may not even have this issue.
Some people find the smell of vinegar offensive. Even though the odor is strong at first, it will dissipate with time. If you want to mask the odor, you can add tea tree oil to your cleaning supplies. Tea tree oil is quite expensive, but a little goes a long way. If you make your own laundry soap, you can also use the tea tree oil to scent your soap.
If you do a lot of baking or cooking, you know that you need a good oven cleaner. I like using natural oven cleaners because I do not have to worry about the smell of the chemicals. Simply make a thick paste out of baking soda and water. Add lemon juice if desired. Rub the paste on the bottom of the oven and on the other places where there may be hardened food deposits. Sprinkle a small amount of water on the bottom of the oven and then let the oven sit over night. Clean using a clean sponge and lots of water.
In order to clean dried food off the microwave, use hot water! Put a bowl full of water in the microwave and boil the water. Let the water sit in the microwave for several minutes until the water cools. Then, simply wipe the food off the sides of the microwave with a clean cloth.
You can make your own window cleaner by putting 2 cups of water in a spray bottle. Add 2 teaspoons of vinegar to the water and mix. I add a drop of blue food coloring to the cleaner so I can tell it is meant for the windows! Blue coloring makes the mixture look like another popular window cleaning solution.
Getting Rid of Mold In The Bathroom
Straight white vinegar is great for getting rid of mold. Simply pour the vinegar into a spray bottle and spray on the mold. Let it sit for a while, and then wipe the vinegar and mold away with a clean cloth. If the smell of the vinegar bothers you, add some tea tree oil to the spray bottle. Ventilating the bathroom will help to dissipate the vinegar odor.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
I have had success cleaning my toilet bowl with bleach. If you do not like the smell of the bleach, or if you are allergic to bleach, you may need to use other items to keep your toilet clean. In this case, you can add 1 cup of white vinegar to the bowl. Add ¼ cup of baking soda and let the mixture sit for a while. Then, use the scrub brush to clean the toilet bowl.
As you begin to clean, you will discover that you can clean just about anything using natural ingredients!
